Arts at Endicott

The Arts at Endicott Committee organizes seven free concerts that take place each summer at the Endicott Estate. The group meets in January to select the dates and talent for the following summer, and divides responsibilities for fund-raising, publicity, and other logistics. Members take turns attending concerts to manage last-minute details. This is a fun and creative committee, and we welcome new members!

The Communications Committee collects information about the club happenings and sends press releases and articles to local newspapers. In an effort to reach a broader audience, DJWC now maintains a Dedham Junior Women’s Club Facebook page to share information about club events and activities.

Education and Libraries

The Education and Libraries Committee works on all levels to help the local, state and international community in any way dealing with education. Our primary emphasis is at the local level with donations of books, items and scholarships, but we have ventured nationally and internationally when there is a need. We support the DEF and DEP as needed along with other volunteer organizations in town.

Friendship Fund

The Friendship Committee supports Club members and past Club members in a variety of ways.  Cards are sent in remembrance on the death of a family member or on the occasion of an illness.  Cards and small gifts are also sent on the birth of a child or grandchild or to celebrate someone’s accomplishment.  The Friendship Committee sends flowers or organizes a food chain/delivery on an as needed basis or will support a member or past member as the situation occurs.  Monies for these expenses are donated by Club members or raised separately from Club fundraisers.

Health and Wellness

The Health and Wellness Committee focuses on supporting women, families, the young and the elderly populations in Dedham. We assist the Town’s Youth Commission whenever there is a need for family assistance due to a fire or other traumatic event by donating clothing/food, or with donations to our town’s needy younger children, teenagers and/or the elderly during the holidays. In particular, each year our committee prepares, from club donations, four Thanksgiving Baskets with all the trimmings to be distributed by the Youth Commission  to needy families in our community. We are also providing assistance to our local “Meals on Wheels” program and have an ongoing collection of toiletries for The Women’s Lunch Place.

Civic Engagement and Outreach

The Civil Engagement and Outreach Committee focuses on community safety and citizenship in action. The Focus on Community Safety Program encourages members to take an active interest in home and vehicle safety, to present safety information programs to members, and to encourage citizen action regarding safety issues facing the community.

The Citizenship in Action Program works to educate members and others about the importance of active citizenship. Under this program, clubwomen create nonpartisan voter awareness, hold forums to discuss political issues, and teach the importance of voting and citizenship to young people. The Citizenship Program also embraces causes dedicated to supporting our troops and veterans. Clubwomen prepare care packages for soldiers overseas, hold fundraisers, and, volunteer to help injured soldiers transition back to civilian life.
